Indigo(Indigofera Tinctoria), also called black henna, is part of the Indian or Ayurvedic tradition. In nature, it occurs as a shrub that can grow up to 2 metres tall and can be recognised by its light green fan-shaped leaves and pinkish-purple flowers. It has always been used as a dye in India, dyeing everything from cotton, hemp, wool, linen and silk, and is now extremely popular as a natural hair dye.

Bioherba Indy Powder is green in colour because it is actually the dried and ground leaves of this plant - mixing it with water and other necessary ingredients to dye or care for hair turns it blue.

Indigo is great for hair dye because of its properties - you can achieve anything from a rich dark brown to black with it. It is most commonly used with henna powder >> but can also be added with amalaki and other natural vegetable dyes - for more intensity.

Separately used to cover grey hair, for example, in addition to the indigo colour, it also nourishes, hydrates, adds shine and volume to the hair.

Acts as a colouring agent, but also nourishes the hair - moisturising it and adding shine and volume.

Use

Advice for use:

• For chestnut brown shades: mix equal amounts of henna and indigo. For short hair approx. 30-40 g, for medium length hair approx. 50 g, for long hair up to 100 g. Mix henna with water to create a paste-like mixture. Mix the indigo with cold water, then combine the two mixtures and leave for 10 minutes, then apply to the length of the hair. Cover your hair with a nylon shower cap, wrap in a towel and leave on for 2-4 hours.
• For black shades: Hair pre-colour with henna. Mix indigo with cold water and let it sit for 10 minutes. Cover your hair with a nylon shower cap, wrap in a towel and leave on for 1.5-2 hours.
