Poremint (Mentha Piperita L.) was created by crossing water mint (Mentha aquatica L.) and spearmint (Mentha spicata L.). It is native to the Mediterranean, but does well anywhere where it is warm enough - even in the home garden.

We know it by its elongated and curved leaves with a distinctly serrated edge. These are the useful part of the plant and must be harvested just before flowering and then quickly dried so they don't turn black. The fresh leaves are a great addition to drinks and meals in summer.

From spearmint is extracted essential oil, used in the food industry in various liqueurs, syrups, soft drinks, candies, chewing gum and chocolate, and on the other hand in cosmetics and skin care products. Peppermint essential oil is in cold season a popular addition to baths and various inhalation preparations. Its dried leaves can be used to make a delicious tea.
